Budget 2009...

And yesterday I was walking down the streets near Funan and saw this copy of the Straits Times at a convenience with this seemingly impossible news that the Government is dishing out money for Singaporeans. S$20.5billion is indeed big, big in Singapore's context anyway because the Government has never hand out such a big package before.

For those who feels that S$20.5Billion is small, yes its small compared to the hundreds of billions poured into financial institutions last year by Temasek Holdings, when the failure of the economy was not apparent yet. But look at it this way, Temasek will probably have to throw in more money to save their initial investments from going down another ravine, so I guess that's where the rest of our surpluses will go...

1 Thing I hope is that the myraid (やおよろず) of schemes that is going to be implemented gets explained down to the lower income people, particularly those in the bottom 20 percentile. Their incomes are probably dwindling down fast and they need paperwork to be easily facilitated for them, not the other way round.

Example:
Yesterday I was eating lunch and there was this woman collecting empty cans agressively to the point I was irritated, before the coffeeshop owner asked her to go away. In times like this, the price of scrap metals should have fallen drastically since demand is no longer there. So their income will be reduced also...

Any scheme that attempts to help the lowest income group will have to reach out to people like these and get them a better life.
